My boyfriend and I were driving on 670 towards easton and this driver cut us off and threw a water bottle at our truck and cussed us out and flipped us off. It’s drivers like him that cause people to lose their lives.
I don’t know but Maybe the company is great, but the driver who came barreling down the hill in left lane… where trucks are not allowed, and excessive speed, cutting in and out of traffic… in other wards driving aggressively, is an example of the Company not hiring Safe drivers. If it was me I would certainly be asking the Dispatch to monitor the driving habits, and either put these drivers who are irresponsible, on loads that are short distance, not time sensitive, and can Follow directions. New drivers tend to just want to jump in and turn the key and go. Just might be that Safety needs to start monitoring like a babysitter and educate the driver the importance of driving around the Big Billboard and be respectful to others.
I have been a commercial driver for 40+ years. I hauled windows out of Grinnell, IA for years. The widow plant closed down this year. The Hummer drivers who pulled out of there were very respectful and professional. I am going to miss many of them and would recommend this company 100%. What brought me here today? My brother is losing his job because his company got outbid and lost their routes so he is looking. I told him about Hummer. If you guys are looking, I recommend this company. Keep it between the lines drivers. :-)
Like some of the reviews on here, I was cut off by a driver (821115), weaving in and out of lanes on the highway in rainy conditions. I had to slam on my breaks and was almost rear ended. He proceeded to get in lanes he could speed in and continue to cut others off. I was a CDL driver and know the importance of defensive driving. This must not be a priority. Think of the lives of other so we can all get home safely.
Truck number 118170 about drove me off the road today in Pittsburg Kansas. No way to contact the company about this, so leaving a review so they see the truck number and do something about this driver’s dangerous habits.
Driver number 525127 driver is illegally parked and has no respect for somebody backing into a parking spot didn't even bother to move just sat there and ate her food!!
Some very entitled drivers. I slowed down to allow one to pass and he gets in front of me and slows down even more. I flash him and he decides to brake check me all the way down to 45. The sad part is he’s on video doing it. I’m still waiting to hear back from safety
Very aggressive driver ran me onto the shoulder of the hiway trying to get around traffic in Kcmo I70 onto 435north today around 4:15 to 4:30 ct. First time I have ever reported on something like this. Your drivers need driver ed!!!!
I’ve had unpleasantries at two other companies. This being the third was definitely the charm. Family oriented, polite and kind helpful In every way. I recommend this company to lightly experienced, drivers and beyond. I am blessed to have found them and eager for the future. Thank you, Don Hummer and Company!
Driver in truck #821126 @ A. Busch today was a "breath of fresh air" by kindly answering and helping me with load bars. It may sound silly but in even the smallest of things someone shows kindness and respect then that man deserves much praise. Thank you for having people like him representing your company. May his road be safe as he travels. God Bless.
It's amazing to find a company that take such significant steps to protect our planet
Feels good to be driving for a company that’s always ahead of the curve
Don Hummer’s got that perfect mix of local charm and nationwide reach
They know the roads 🙏
I never have to worry about a thing. Handle my shipments with respect
Don hummer is a great place to work for last year I had lung cancer the company did what they could to help me and my family after I got healed up they hired me back thanks everyone at the office
A true OTRA company hires from all over. If they don't have freight in your area find out why. I applied and found out the have a VERY bad reputation in the southeast.
Aggressive Speeding driver, maintaining speeds over 74 mph in a well posted 45 mph construction zone. After the 45 mph construction zone, he maintained 70 mph in a well posted 55 mph speed limit.
The driver of the company was idiot, he doesn’t know how to drive, going back n forth ( speeding n breaking in front of us and wanted us to stop and fight). Called his company, drivers like him are very dangerous on the roads
if you're a driver? this is THE SPOT. everything about this company is class. flew me out to meet with company corporate. they were all awesome. seated in a 24 kenworth t680 (Cummins x15) have been moving non stop at a fantastic cpm. on top of all of this the trucks are governed at 70, no inward camera and no intrusive auto driving "safety features" you get fuel where and when you want. autonomy is huge here. home time is 12 on and 3 off. can't beat that. I'm honestly happier than I've ever been
Hello Hummer family just like to say thank you for the coffee I can't wait to try it it smells delicious my husband has been driving for the company for some time now through the changeover I believe he really enjoys driving for Hummer and the gift that you give to workers are awesome I think you guys are a great company to work for thanks again for all you do to keep the guys on the road. Betty & Thomas Shipman
This company will straight up lie to you in your pre employment interview ..AVOID ! Also didn't reimburse me for my travel costs to cedar rapids . I stayed 7 days and on the 5 th day the story totally changed . I returned the truck to the terminal ..rented a car and went home ..total waste of time and middle finger at don hummer .
Don hummer Trucking ; Cedar Rapids, Iowa Overall, great company to drive for keep you busy dedicated runs, get you home very good equipment Great maintenance good people although none are perfect ; Romans 3:10 💜😊🙏🚛
I just started two months ago ,but I have been driving for almost 22 years. This is the best company I have ever worked for . No place is perfect yeah ,but this place is almost.
Driver on I-380 11/1/2022 showed total disregard to safety for others on the roadway. I was a few cars back but watched the driver Jump over 3 lanes without using any turning signals resulting in multiple vehicles having to slam on their brakes. Then the driver was unable to keep his rig in his own lane and tailgating other vehicles. When I went to take a picture of the cab of his truck he chose to give me the one finger salute. I’ve had my Class A CDL for almost 30 years now and this clown gives others a bad name. Made several attempts to report this driver ZERO RESULTS!!!
Great company which is another way of saying "great people!" If you're a great driver, go see them. If you have stuff that needs to be shipped, they're a great choice!
Over all Don Hummer Tucking is a amazing company to work for I really haven't found a problem with them so far. I have been here going on two years now and I was able to take a really vacation this year with my family for the very first time ever. I have always wanted to go on vacation but I wasn't able to with any other company I was with. There dispatchers are top notch in my book. Anytime I have had a problem with a load it was fixed as soon as possible that way I could get onto the the next load and get down the road. The shops are very friendly and will work with you to get your truck fixed as quickly as possible but they will as do it right not a quick fix and out the door like others have done that I have worked for. There terminal might be in Iowa but Everytime I have to go out there for something it's nice cause of them having a company car you can use to go to the store or just out to eat while your there. Like I said before Hummer is a amazing company and I would love to see all my driver friends over here with me someday. And I tell everyone that asked about Hummer it's a lovely place to work for you get the home time you want and they are very family oriented. Family comes first and formost in Don Hummers eyes and that's the way it should be everywhere. I hope this review helps someone come to Hummer but if not that's ok to. Good luck and be safe.
As a Don Hummer employee I can honestly say that Don Hummer Trucking is one of the best companies out there for drivers who want to be treated with respect. We are given great equipment to drive and we are treated like we matter. I have had family emergencies that required me to be home immediately , once while I was in Virginia, and everyone at Don Hummer Trucking worked to ensure that I made it home as quickly as possible to take care of my family and never once made me feel like I was asking too much of them. I am home every weekend and my time off requests are always honored. I would recommend Don Hummer Trucking to anyone who is looking for a driving career.
When I started with this company I had no or little experience as a driver, I went through the training phase, I was very pleased with the trainer Victor Lopez. And the training program the safety team, my DM, was very helpful to the rookie like me.The little experience of driving with other company and the owner operator I had was a joke. Don hummer gave me an opportunity to drive and become a professional driver. I really can go on and on about this company.,how good I feel about being with them. one thing I can say they take care of their trucks, they take care of their drivers , they don’t make us wait for preload ,if you’re not getting enough miles it’s not the Company fault, they keep you running.don’t think I could leave this company in search of more money. An excellent company to work for. very proud to be a Don Hummer, driver. thanks for the opportunity to be able to see from Rookie to professional driver. However I’m still the rookie ...
I've been trucking on and off for 34 years, consistently for 20. This company is the best company that I've had the pleasure to work for. Most companies say that they are family oriented and that the driver is the focus of the company, but Hummer IS the ONLY company that has proven this. Thank you to everyone at Don Hummer trucking. You ARE the best!!!!
They hired me with basically a year and a day experience. I have received great pay, very comfortable equipment, a terrific dispatcher, minimal downtime between loads usually I can keep rolling with no downtime. They have a great relationship with a lot of good customers so that means more freight for us drivers. If you're looking for a great company position give Hummer a call.
Hummer offers a great pay pkg that fits my needs. The Company offers competitive benefits and has a family feel to it, yet is still big enough for continuous work and good equipment. Management / Training are great. Its the kind of company, you can see yourself w for the long haul! ;-D
I spent. Almost exactly 11 months driving for Hummer. This short period was due to an opportunity to advance my driving career with another carrier. I loved every minute driving for Hummer. The staff, DM’s and fellow drivers are some of the best people I have met in the industry. Not only are YOU family but so are YOUR family members part of Hummer. Don’t get me wrong there are cons and areas that could be improved. But, the overall experience has been that of a team of friends working to build a better environment to satisfy and complement each other to better server the customer. I left Hummer with much fear over my new opportunity. It was very hard to trade this family enterprise for an unknown.
The pay is reasonable, benefits are average, and the equipment is reliable. Driver managers are competent and dependable. The company fosters a respectful culture unlike any I’ve experienced. They are actively working to improve the work environment.
What is the best part of working at the company? Strong leadership, genuine care for employees, clear communication, steady work, and state-of-the-art equipment. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The company itself isn’t stressful, but unpredictable weather—like Wyoming winters—requires careful decision-making. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Professional, family-oriented, and stable. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Driving my shift with clear communication and 24-hour support available whenever needed.
This used to be a great place to work, but after being away for a year and a half, I returned to find it had changed. It’s no longer family-oriented—now, it’s all about money. Disappointing.
What is the best part of working at the company? The maintenance program and the newer fleet of trucks. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? I struggled to get enough OTR miles, so I switched to Dedicated. While I got the miles, dispatching was often last-minute. The company also didn’t support me when I was out on medical leave, ultimately terminating me. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? You can work hard, never turn down loads, and make impossible runs happen—only to realize they don’t truly have your back. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Waiting for the correct load assignment, which could change multiple times. I typically ran about 10 hours a day.
Great company with excellent driver managers, well-maintained equipment, and clean terminals. Friendly staff, a 68mph governor, and a variety of pickup and delivery locations. Competitive pay with bonuses. No excessive downtime—though rare delays at customers do happen, and they compensate for it. I stay out for 21 days or more if I choose. Home time is flexible. I’d stay here forever if they offered flatbed and Canada routes or slightly better pay.
I spent four years here and had a great experience. The staff was professional and friendly, keeping me busy while ensuring I had enough home time. I felt valued as a person, not just a truck number.
I highly recommend this company to truck drivers. The facility is well-maintained, and the owner is actively involved with drivers and maintenance staff. Office personnel are kind, considerate, and fair when addressing drivers’ needs.
Leaving this company was a nightmare. They raised their family insurance policy to nearly $300 per week. I gave notice because I couldn’t afford it and opted out of coverage, thinking I was doing the right thing. However, because I worked part of January, they deducted five weeks of high-cost insurance from my final paycheck all at once. When I called to ask why, they essentially said, “Because we can.” If I had simply quit without notice, I would have been charged only $500—saving me $900. They treat employees well while they’re there, but once you leave, they’ll take advantage of you.
Don Hummer is a solid company to drive for. They offer consistent miles, decent pay, and prioritize safety. Their trucks are fairly new, and trailers are well-maintained.
Dispatchers frequently push drivers to chase hours beyond the initial 70, leading to wasted time and excessive waiting. I asked to stay out longer to reset my hours, but they always required advance notice—even though they could see my availability. While customer service needs sometimes prevent resets, they never allowed it unless a load was canceled. This resulted in low pay two out of every four weeks. Better driver management would improve the company. They have quality equipment and good home time, but I ultimately realized there was no money in it. My current job pays 20% of load revenue, with most runs under 500 miles. I now take home over $1,000 weekly and have three days off each week—all as a company driver, not an owner-operator.
A good workplace with nice dispatchers and reliable equipment. I never had issues with the company. No long waits for reloads. Overall, a solid place to work.
I worked here for six years, then had to take time off to battle colon cancer. When I recovered, I was told my job was no longer available. It felt like a betrayal—I had an excellent on-time record and never turned down a load. I loved working here, but management treated me like I was no longer capable. Very disappointing.
This was my second time working here, and I was really let down by the Dispatch Manager and Planners. The first month was great, but after switching to a new DM, things went downhill. I requested a different DM, but they asked me to wait. A month later, nothing had changed. Poor drive-time management resulted in my income dropping by half after the second month. Despite staying out for 3-4 weeks, I barely reached 2,000 miles per week when I should have been hitting 2,500. Not sure if the issue was the DM or the planners.
Low pay, poor miles, and terrible loads. If you’re used to an APU, avoid this company. Their equipment is decent, but the e-log system is outdated Qualcomm, which isn’t great.
The orientation staff is fantastic—everyone knows who you are. Unfortunately, the miles weren’t enough to make it worthwhile despite staying out for three weeks or more. It’s a great fit for those living near Iowa, but not for me.
